How we build websites →

What to expect from a website design company in Kenya

A business website has three jobs: make a strong first impression, answer the questions that stop people from buying, and make the next step — a call, a WhatsApp message, a form, a purchase — effortless. A good website design company in Kenya designs for all three, and for the realities of the local market: many visitors on mobile data, payments through M-Pesa, and customers who would rather send a WhatsApp message than fill in a long form.

Why we build on WordPress

We design and build on WordPress because it lets your team edit pages and publish posts without calling a developer, it is supported by a large ecosystem, and it works well for SEO. We keep builds lean — a lightweight theme, only essential plugins, and modern block-editor pages — so sites stay fast and secure. This site is an example of our approach: a custom lightweight theme with self-hosted fonts and no heavy page builder.

Our website design process

1. Discovery. Goals, audiences, competitors, content and integrations (payments, CRM, booking, WhatsApp).

2. Structure and content. A sitemap and page outlines built around what your customers need to know. Our copywriting team can write or edit the content.

3. Design. A distinctive visual direction for your brand, designed mobile-first.

4. Build. Development on WordPress with performance, accessibility and SEO built in: clean headings, structured data, sitemaps and fast loading.

5. Launch. Hosting set-up, SSL, backups, analytics and conversion tracking, redirects from old URLs, and search console submission.

6. Handover and training. Your team learns how to edit pages and publish posts. Documentation included.

Speed matters on Kenyan connections

Many visitors browse on mobile data, so page weight matters. We optimise images, avoid unnecessary scripts and use caching. A faster site is cheaper for visitors to load and tends to convert better.

A website is a sales tool — measure it like one

We set up tracking so you can see where enquiries come from. To estimate what improving your conversion rate could be worth, use our free website ROI calculator.

Types of websites we build

  • Company and professional services websites

  • Client and staff portals connected to business systems

Experience

Our team has managed large WordPress sites for media and institutional clients — architecture, publishing workflows, SEO and performance — and runs its own publications. Learn more about Ananke Digital.

Choosing a web design company

Ask who will own the domain, hosting and admin accounts (you should). Ask how you will edit content after launch. Ask about speed, security updates and backups. And ask what happens if you need changes six months later.

SEO & AI search (GEO)

Be the answer on Google and in AI assistants.

SEO in Kenya now means two things

For years, search engine optimisation meant one goal: rank on Google. That is still essential — but more and more people now ask AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot for recommendations, and Google itself shows AI-generated overviews above the usual results. Being visible today means being found in classic search results and being understood, trusted and cited by these AI systems. The second discipline is often called generative engine optimisation (GEO) or AI search optimisation.

Ananke Digital offers both as one service, because they depend on the same foundations: a technically healthy website, genuinely useful content, a clear and consistent description of who you are, and mentions from credible sources.

Classic SEO: the foundations

Technical SEO. Fast pages, clean site structure, mobile usability, correct indexing, XML sitemaps, canonical URLs and structured data. We audit and fix these first, because content cannot rank if search engines struggle to crawl it.

Keyword and intent research. Using tools such as Ahrefs, Semrush and Google Search Console, we find what your Kenyan customers actually search for — including Kiswahili and local phrasing — and map each topic to one page, so your pages do not compete with each other.

On-page optimisation. Titles, headings, internal links, images and copy that answer the searcher’s question clearly.

Content. Guides, service pages and tools that deserve to rank. Our own free calculators are an example: useful pages that answer specific questions.

Local SEO. Google Business Profile setup and optimisation, consistent name, address and phone details across directories, and reviews from real customers.

GEO: being recommended by AI assistants

AI assistants build answers from content they can access and sources they consider reliable. There is no way to guarantee a recommendation, and anyone promising one is overselling. What you can do is make your business easy to understand and easy to cite:

  • Clear entity information. A consistent, factual description of what your business is, where it is and what it does — on your site, in structured data and on third-party profiles.
  • Structured data. Organization, Service, Person, FAQ and breadcrumb schema so machines can read your facts without guessing.
  • Answer-ready content. Pages that answer real questions directly, with definitions, steps, formulas and FAQs that can be quoted accurately.
  • Crawler access. Making sure AI crawlers are not blocked in robots.txt, and providing an llms.txt summary of your site.
  • Credible mentions. Coverage, directory listings, partner pages and reviews from sources that AI systems and search engines trust.
  • Monitoring. Regularly asking AI assistants the questions your customers ask and tracking whether and how you appear.

Our SEO & GEO process

1. Audit — technical health, content, competitors, Search Console data and current AI-assistant visibility.
2. Plan — a prioritised roadmap of fixes, pages and content, with one target page per keyword.
3. Implement — we fix, write and publish, or work alongside your team and developers.
4. Build authority — digital PR, directory listings, partnerships and Google Business Profile.
5. Report — monthly reporting on rankings, organic traffic, conversions and AI-assistant visibility checks.

Why our experience matters here

SEO works best with

A fast website (website design), strong writing (content & copywriting) and media coverage (PR). To estimate the value of more conversions from your existing traffic, try our website ROI calculator.

How long does it take?

Technical fixes can show effects within weeks. Content and authority usually take several months to build, and depend on competition. We set realistic expectations upfront and report progress monthly.

PR & communications

Say the right thing, before someone else says it for you.

What a PR and communications consultancy does

A communications consultancy helps organisations decide what to say, to whom, through which channels — and how to protect their reputation when things go wrong. In Kenya’s fast-moving media environment, where a story can move from X to television news within hours, that work needs both strategic thinking and the ability to act quickly. Ananke Digital provides strategic communications, media relations, executive communications and crisis communications for businesses, NGOs and institutions.

Our communications services

Communications strategy. Audiences, objectives, key messages, channels, calendar and measures of success — written down and agreed, so every team tells the same story.

Media relations. Identifying the right moments for news, preparing press releases and media kits, pitching to relevant journalists and publications, and preparing spokespeople.

Executive and thought-leadership communications. Op-eds, speeches, talking points, LinkedIn content and briefing materials for leaders, plus preparation for interviews, panels and conferences.

Crisis communications. Risk mapping, escalation protocols, holding statements, spokesperson training, monitoring and rapid response — set up before you need it. Read our guide on how to prepare for a communications crisis.

Stakeholder, partner and donor communications. For NGOs and donor-funded organisations: impact stories, reports, partner visibility and communications that meet donor standards.

Internal communications. Helping staff understand and support change — from new strategies to new systems.

How we work

1. Listen. We start with your goals, audiences, risks and how you are currently perceived.

2. Plan. A communications plan with messages, channels, a calendar and clear approvals.

3. Produce. Releases, articles, speeches, social content and multimedia, with fact-checking and sign-off built in.

4. Engage. Media outreach, spokesperson support and channel management.

5. Measure. Coverage, reach, sentiment, share of voice and progress against agreed goals.

Experience behind the consultancy

Our founder previously led the team delivering the digital communications mandate for a pan-African trade programme run by an international donor-funded organisation, working across 14 African countries — covering strategy, media relations, executive communications, crisis protocols and donor reporting. Before starting Ananke he also led campaigns and audience growth at one of Kenya’s largest digital news publishers. See about Ananke Digital.

PR in a digital-first market

Traditional PR and social media can no longer be run separately. Journalists find stories on X; public reaction plays out in comments; and creators shape opinion alongside newsrooms. We integrate PR with social media management, influencer marketing and content, so your message is consistent everywhere. Strong media coverage also supports SEO and AI-search visibility, because credible mentions help search engines and AI assistants understand and trust your organisation.

Crisis communications: prepare before you need it

Most organisations write a crisis plan after their first crisis. A better approach is to map the likely scenarios, agree who decides and who speaks, draft holding statements and set up monitoring now. When something happens, you will spend your time on the response, not on working out who should approve the tweet.

Who we work with

Businesses preparing launches or managing reputation, NGOs and donor-funded programmes with multiple stakeholders and donors, and leaders who need help communicating clearly in public.
