Industries / Funeral homes & memorial pages

One page for the send-off, not forty forwarded messages.

Memorial pages with the programme, M-Pesa contributions and updates in one link, for families, funeral committees and funeral homes.

When someone dies, a family in Kenya suddenly runs a small organisation: a committee, a budget, meetings every evening, travel for relatives, a programme to print and a burial upcountry. We build a single, dignified page that holds all of it, so the family can spend less time answering the same questions.

What happens today

Grief, plus a project with a deadline.

The announcement goes out as an image on WhatsApp. Then come the questions: where is the fundraising meeting, which number do we send to, what time is the service, is there a bus from Nairobi. The treasurer reconciles M-Pesa messages from a personal phone late at night and posts screenshots to the group to prove the money is safe. The programme is designed at a cyber café the day before. Relatives abroad cannot follow the service and ask for a video link that someone forgets to share.

None of this is anyone’s fault. Families improvise because the tools they have are a WhatsApp group and a phone. The result is tiring for people who are already grieving, and it can strain trust when contributions are not visible.

Funeral homes see the same pattern with every family they serve, and often get asked to help with things outside their role.

What we build

A calm page, built in a day, owned by the family.

The memorial page

A private-link or public page, the family’s choice, with the tribute, photos, programme and venues. Built to open quickly on any phone, because many relatives will be reading it from upcountry on a slow connection.

Contributions the committee can account for

Contributions go to an M-Pesa paybill or till that the family or committee controls. We do not hold the money. Where the account allows it, payments are listed automatically with name and amount; the treasurer can export a statement for the committee meeting instead of forwarding screenshots.

Programme and order of service

A printable order of service generated from the same page, so changes to hymns, speakers or times are made once.

Updates and livestream

A short updates section for logistics such as transport, accommodation and venue changes, plus the livestream link and a recording for the diaspora.

For funeral homes

A partner arrangement so a funeral home can offer families a memorial page as part of its service, with the home’s details shown respectfully and the family still in control.

How it goes

From first message to live.

  1. A WhatsApp message from a family member or committee member. We ask only for what the page needs.
  2. A draft page within a day, shared privately with the family for corrections.
  3. The family approves, then shares one link in place of repeated forwards.
  4. After the burial, the page stays up as a memorial, is archived, or is taken down: the family decides.

Pricing: after a short call we send a written scope with a fixed quote. Memorial pages are quoted as a small fixed amount agreed upfront, with no percentage taken from contributions.

Questions

Fair questions.

Does Ananke hold the contributions?

No. Money goes straight to the M-Pesa account the family or committee controls. We only build the page and, where the account allows, display the record.

Can the page be private?

Yes. It can be shared only by link and kept out of search engines, or made public if the family wants it found.

How quickly can it be ready?

We aim for a first draft within a day of receiving the announcement, photo and programme details.

Who approves condolence messages?

The family or someone they nominate. Nothing appears until it is approved.

What happens to the page afterwards?

The family chooses: keep it as a lasting memorial, download a copy, or have it removed.
