A practical social media checklist for Kenyan SMEs

October 14, 2026 · By Ananke Digital

Most small businesses in Kenya know they should be on social media. Fewer have a simple system that keeps them consistent. Here is a practical checklist you can apply this week.

1. Pick the right platforms, not all of them

Go where your customers already are. Consumer brands often get the most from TikTok, Instagram and Facebook; B2B firms from LinkedIn; and almost every business benefits from a well-run WhatsApp Business account. Two platforms done well beat five done badly.

2. Make your profiles do the selling

Use a clear profile photo or logo, a one-line description of what you do and where, your working hours, and a direct way to buy or enquire — a WhatsApp link, phone number or website.

3. Plan content in themes

Rotate between a few themes: product or service highlights, behind-the-scenes, customer questions answered, and useful tips. A simple monthly calendar in a spreadsheet is enough to start.

4. Reply fast

In many Kenyan markets, conversation is the sale. Set aside time each day to answer comments and DMs, and use WhatsApp Business quick replies for common questions such as prices, location and delivery.

5. Measure what matters

Ignore vanity numbers. Track enquiries, website clicks and sales that started on social. Review monthly and do more of what worked.
